CP 290 Planning Field Course is an on site summer course required for the second year undergraduate students of the City and Regional Planning Department of Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH). It is a prerequisite course of the third year planning studio where students will develop strategies for the future development of the city.

This year the Planning Field Course will be undertaken in Zonguldak. 25 students will collect and analyse quantitative, qualitative and spatial data-both secondary and primary- and produce papers on the social, economic, political and spatial dynamics of the city under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Semahat Ozdemir, Asst. Prof. Dr. Güldem Özatağan, Specialist Hüsnet Ceyhan, Dr. Feral Geçer Sargın,  and Umut Erdem.

The course will take place from 13 August to 10 September. It requires one week preperation at IZTECH, 1 week in the field (in Zonguldak), and 2 weeks producing papers on the basis of field research in Zonguldak. In the first week students will follow intensive theoretical lectures and workshops on data analysis. This preperation will provide a conceptual and analytical basis for understanding and exploring Zonguldak. The group will leave to Zonguldak on 21 August to conduct their field study. The field study includes lectures by scholars from Zonguldak Karaelmas University, briefings and preperations by local municipalities, the Regional Development Agency, planning officials, chamber of industry and commerce officials, and port authorities, site visits, fieldworks in a variety of neighborhoods of Zonguldak, and student presentations.
